Dichotic listening and phonological theory : word-initial consonant groups

Sous la direction de Tobias Scheer

Keywords : dichotic listening, clusters #RT, non-words

The thesis project concerns the initial consonant clusters of words in dichotic listening on languages not restrictive to #TR. The purpose of this thesis is to test #RT groups in non-restrictive languages including Czech in particular in order to assess whether or not they are restored as is in dichotic perception. For speakers of these languages, the prediction is that an #RT stimulus can be perceived as is without correction by phonological grammar. Indeed, in Czech-like languages, phonological theory predicts that #RT, like #TR, is restored as it is in dichotic listening, since phonology accepts both. To test our hypothesis, we will compare existing #RT groups and non-existing #RT groups in Czech. These groups will only be found in non-words to eliminate the lexical effect.
