Workshop : Primary progressive aphasia

17/05/2023 - MSHS-SE - Salle Plate - Pôle universitaire St Jean d’Angély – Bâtiment SJA 3 25 Av. François Mitterrand, 06300 Nice

Workshop : Primary progressive aphasia

In this half-day workshop, we address primary progressive aphasia (PPA) from multiple sides. PPA is an acquired language disorder caused by a specific type of dementia, or progressive neurodegeneration, affecting language abilities primarily. It is often caused by focal dementia and is characterized by a primary impairment in language abilities and functional disruptions associated with language (Mesulam, 2001). PPA symptoms worsen as the disease progresses, with devastating effects on individuals’ everyday life. Research on this has focused mainly on language but also other cognitive capacities including thinking or concentrating are known to decline in this debilitating disorder as it progresses over time.
